New Delhi: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has announced that it will approach Supreme Court if ordinance brought by the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre making instant triple talaq a punishable offence is approved by both the Houses of the Parliament.
India Today has quoted AIMPLB member Zafaryab Jilani as saying, “In the upcoming meeting of the board members on December 16th in Lucknow the ordinance brought by the central government making instant triple talaq cognizable will also be discussed. If the ordinance is cleared by the Parliament then the board is likely to approach the Supreme Court. The final decision on this issue will be taken in the meeting on Sunday.”
However, Jilani clarified that the Board is also against instant triple talaq but said the 3 years punishment in the ordinance brought by this government was not required. He argued that there are a lot of women who also want to leave their husband immediately and this can easily be misused.
