AMU proffesor attempts suicide claiming office politics

Aligarh: An assistant professor of Aligarh Muslim University’s (AMU) JN Medical college, Parvez Anwar Khan, attempted suicide by slitting his throat in front of medical superintendent (MS) on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old professor of microbiology department, who belongs to Hardoi, was taken to the hospital and is critical.

MS Haris Mansoor Khan spoke to TOI and said: “Parvez entered my office at around 2:40 pm and claimed that his colleagues wanted to kill him. He then bolted the door from inside and slashed his throat with a blade that he was carrying,” said Haris.

Parvez’ parents have been summoned by the college authorities, while no case is yet registered.

Parvez also spoke to the media saying, “I had planned to contest in the university’s Executive Council elections, but some people started conspiring against him and played dirty. Many of my colleagues were feeling jealous of me because I was handling many important projects.”

“I had guessed that some colleagues and students were conspiring against me, so I decided to leave the medical college on Wednesday. I recorded my statement and uploaded the dying declaration on social media before trying to kill myself. I have also written a suicide note in which I have named many people,” he added.
