New Delhi: BJP veteran Yashwant Sinha has lashed out at the Modi Government several times. Recently, he in hard-hitting remarks has lashed out at “superman” Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for making a “mess” of the Indian economy which is headed for a “hard landing” as sector after sector is slipping into distress.
In an editorial page article in The Indian Express, Sinha, who was Finance Minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi “claims he has seen poverty from close quarters (and) his finance minister is working over-time to make sure that all Indians also see it from equally close quarters”.
Sinha said Jaitley had been luckier than his predecessors to hold the Ministry at a time when lakhs of crores of rupees were at his disposal following the depressed global crude oil prices.
But he wasted the oil bonanza which “was waiting to be used imaginatively”.
He also attacked Govt. on decision such as demonetisation, GST, GDP and the abolition of the Planning Commission. He further supported dialogues with separatists and the Hurriyat.
However, it may be noted that he is not the only leader of the party to do so. Many other leaders of BJP also spoke against policies of Modi Govt.
Actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha has been criticizing the decision of Govt. Recently, a day after backing former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha’s views on the economy, he advised Prime Minister Narendra Modi to “come forward and face the people”.
In the past too, he supported leaders like Lalu Prasad, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and other.
In December 2015, Kirti Azad, cricketer-turned-politician was suspended by BJP for publicly targeting Finance Minister Arun Jaitley over corruption in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA). He had claimed that the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) probe report had recommended “prosecution” of Jaitley in the DDCA affairs
LK Advani, Senior BJP leader was also against the elevation of Modi as BJP’s prime ministerial candidate for 2014 Lok Sabha elections. To oppose it, he skipped the BJP’s Parliamentary Board meeting on 13th September 2013.
In 2015, during an interview, he said that he is not sure about Emergency would not be imposed again, India Today reports.
In December 2016, he expressed displeasure with Modi Govt. and Lok Sabha Speaker, Sumitra Mahajan for frequent disruption of the house.
Murli Manohar Joshi
Same as Mr. Advani, senior party leader Murli Manohar Joshi was also against making Modi face of BJP for 2014 election.
It may be mentioned that after winning the election, BJP created a new cell Margdarshak Mandal for Advani, Joshi and other senior leaders. Joshi who is an MP from Kanpur had publicly attacked the Modi government on many occasions.
On one occasion, he raised questions about Namani Ganga Project and said that river will not be cleaned even after next 50 years.
Arun Shourie, Journalist-turned-politician also attacks Prime Minister Narendra Modi on many occasions. Mr. Shourie accused Modi of running a one-man presidential government and expressed concerns that more attempts would be made to curb civil liberties.
After BJP’s defeat in Bihar Assembly elections, Joshi, Advani, Arun Shourie slammed Modi’s team.
Subramanian Swamy targeted Arun Jaitley many times. He criticized new tax regime, GST. He alleged that GST is implemented in hurry. He also warned Modi Govt. on NPA of public banks.
In the past, Swamy had also attacked the then RBI governor, Raghuram Rajan and the chief economic adviser to the government, Arvind Subramanian.
RK Singh, bureaucrat-turned-politician, leveled charges against BJP leaders two years ago. He alleged that BJP sold tickets to criminals. It may be mentioned that it was Singh who had arrested Advani from Samastipur and stopped his rath yatra to Ayodhya.
