Army detains three jawans over killing of soldier Aurangzeb in Kashmir

The Army has detained three personnel of the 44 Rashtriya Rifles and are being questioned for their alleged involvement in the abduction and killing of soldier Aurangzeb by militants in June last year.

Last year in June in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama, Rifleman Aurangzeb was believed to be kidnapped and shot dead by terrorists when he was travelling in a private vehicle on his way home in Poonch to celebrate Eid with his family.

A team of police and Army found his body with bullets in Pulwama. He was shot in the head and neck. Aurangzeb was awarded Shaurya Chakra after his death.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Army chief General Bipin Rawat after his death had visited separately to the family to express their condolences.

The three soldiers from Aurangzeb’s regiment, 44 Rashtriya Rifles, are reportedly under detention after investigations revealed that they might have leaked the information about the movements of Aurangzeb.

His killing led to outrage across the country. Two days ago, Aurangzeb’s father Mohammad Hanief who was was a sepoy of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry joined the BJP in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a rally in Vijaypur, Jammu.
