NEW DELHI: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley ruled out the possibility of a Joint Parliamentary Committee, and said: “The deaf will never hear an answer.”
After the Supreme Court’s massive validation for the government, In a joint press conference with Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Mr Jaitley said: “deals like Rafale cannot be reviewed in a body of partisan divisions, it can only be done in a court of law.”
Mr Jaitley asserted that “All the figures by the government are correct and all the figures by Mr Rahul Gandhi are false and I have justified it. The truth has only one version and falsehood has many. That is why Mr Rahul Gandhi quoted several figures.”
Blaming the Modi government for the “factual bloomers” in the Supreme Court judgment in the Rafale deal, the Congress on Saturday asserted that the apex court was neither the right forum to examine the corruption in the deal nor the verdict was a “clean chit” for the BJP-led Centre.
Earlier the apex court on Friday dismissed four petitions seeking court-monitored probe into the purchase of 36 Rafale jet fighters in ready-to-fly condition holding that the decision-making process was not in doubt and it cannot go into the question of pricing and choice of offset Indian partner by the French aircraft manufacturer Dassault.
