Aspiring actress kidnapped, attempted rape at knife-point by welder

Bengaluru: Woman safety is becoming a rising concern these days with many women unknowingly walking into traps laid by perpetrators.

The incident reported from Karnataka’s Kolar district an aspiring 23-year-old actress was allegedly kidnapped and threatened to be raped at knifepoint by a welder said the Malur Police.

The accused is a 34-year-old male Somashekhar, a resident of Bangarpet, in Karnataka’s Kolar district a welder who quite often did odd jobs at multiple film shooting locations.

According to sources the accused contacted the actress from East Bengaluru through a WhatsApp group which is related to film community.

Luring her into the trap of getting her offers and roles in the film industry he asked the actress to come over to Tekal to get her photo shoot done.

The accused was reluctant at offering her a good photoshoot that the actress finally agreed after refusing to accept his offer.

Unknown of the danger laid ahead of her the actress came to Bengaluru City railway station on May 1 at 9.30 am where the accused had accompanied her.

They both reportedly traveled in the same Kuppam passenger train to Tekal.

“We deboarded at Tekal at 1 pm and walked for two kilometres on the railway track. Suddenly, he pushed me aside, threatened at knifepoint and tried to rape me. I begged him not to harm e and he later tied my legs and hands. He demanded Rs 5 lakh for my safe release. I requested a friend over the phone to arrange the money and bring it to Tekal,” the actress stated in her complaint.

When the accused believed his demands will soon be met he untied the woman.
This was the moment of freedom for the victim who managed to trick him after making an excuse of drinking water and approached railway authorities and narrated her ordeal.

All this time the accused somehow sensed danger and escaped the spot before the authorities could arrest him.

He was somehow caught by the police after a case was registered against him at the Cantonment police station under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 354a (sexual harassment) and 387 (putting a person in fear of death or of grievous hurt to commit extortion).
