Assam gets its first Shatabdi Express train

Assam : In a major boost to connectivity, Assam got its first Shatabdi Express train recently and has acquired a niche position in the Railway Map of India. The new train will run between Dibrugarh and Guwahati.

The train was flagged off by Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain. Other ministers and dignitaries were also present during the event.

According to locals, the new train is a blessing for the region as it would cut short expenses and travelling time.

“This is our first ever Shatabdi Express and the train is good. It feels good to travel in the train. Food is also good and has a better quality.People of Assam are really happy to have this train; we are fortunate enough to get this train and even in the future if more such trains comes up then people will have a great journey and will enjoy extra comfort,” a spectator Pankaj Shukla said.

The train has seven intermediate stoppages including Moranhat, Sibsagar, Mariani, Kharkating, Dimapur, Lumding and Saparmukh.

The Centre’s effort in launching the first ever Shatabdi Express train in the northeast will not only improve connectivity in the region, but also boost the trade and economy.

The Shatabdi trains are counted among the fastest and most prestigious trains of Indian Railways along with the Rajdhani and Duronto trains.
