Aurangabad: Toxic factory chemicals add to farmers woes, destroy crops

Aurangabad: The farmers of Aurangabad’s Pathri village have alleged that their agricultural crops have been badly affected due to the release of toxic chemicals from Shendra MIDC chemical plant.

The villagers claimed that the toxic water overflows into their farms and water sources-wells and rivers, and damages their crops. “The poisonous water has destroyed the crops and the cattle also died after drinking the toxic water,” one of the villagers said.

Another local said, “The private company has poured tankers of chemical waste around farming operational area due to which water has got contaminated. A test proves water is unfit for use.”

The villagers also said that they have written letters to the local authorities regarding the issue but no one took cognisance of it yet.
