Autorickshaw driver killed in crane collapse

Gurgaon: A 34-year-old auto driver was killed and one other injured today after a crane collapsed on the three-wheeler at Hero Honda Chowk here, police said.

The incident took place around 12:30 PM yesterday the auto driver Sachin was dropping a passenger.

The crane was being used at a construction site of at Hero Honda Chowk on NH-8. It was lifting heavy pipes and suddenly got unbalanced and came down on the auto rickshaw, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashok Bakshi said.

The driver and the passenger Abhishek (29) were hit by the crane and rushed to a nearby hospital where Sachin was declared brought dead while Abhishek has been referred to the Medicity Medanta Hospital, Bakshi said.

Sachin’s body has been handed over to his family members after postmortem.

He was a resident of Jawahar Nagar in Gurgaon, while the injured is a resident of Bikaji Cama place in south Delhi AND works as a senior executive at a private bank, Bakshi said.

“We are investigating the matter and are trying to find out who is guilty in this negligence” he said.

Madhusudan, the area general manager of Vallacha engineering private limited, which took was carrying out the work at the site told PTI that they had outsourced this pipelines construction work to another company on contract.
