Bairstow confident of England winning Christchurch Test

Christchurch: England wicket-keeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow is confident that his side could scalp 10 wickets on fifth day of the Christchurch Test to level the series 1-1 against New Zealand.

“We’ve got three sessions to bowl and take 10 wickets. If the light and weather comes into it, there’s nothing we can do about it,” the Sport24 quoted Bairstow, as saying.

“Going into the last day, we’re in a great position. I think we’ve got a good chance.”

New Zealand were 42 without loss in pursuit of a mammoth target of 382 runs when the day was called off due to bad light.

They just need to save their wickets on the final day while batting on a flat pitch to win their first Test series against England since 1999.

However, Bairstow believes that there is enough in the Hagley Oval pitch to create chances to level the series.

“We’ve beaten the bat consistently. Leachy (spinner Jack Leach) bowled three overs this evening and there were some chances created there,” he said.

New Zealand will resume the final day on Tuesday, with Tom Latham and Jeet Raval batting on 25 and 17 respectively. (ANI)
