Bengaluru: Wipro techie falls to death in an attempt to jump off moving train

Bengaluru: In a rush to get down as soon as the train started after bidding good-bye to his old parents, a 28-year-old Wipro techie fell down and got killed instantly after he came under the Yeshwantpur-Kannur Express at Carmelaram railway station on Monday night, said reports.

In order to save his techie son Vikram Vijayan, Vijayan Chakkingal, aged 65 rushed to help his son noticing he was stuck under the train.

According to Byappanahalli police, Vikram Vijayan, a resident of Sector 3, HSR Layout and a Wipro employee as at the station to bid farewell to his parents who had been staying with him for a few days and had boarded the Yeshwantpur-Kannur Express to return to Palakkad.

Vikram’s father, Vijayan, a retired technician and resident of Kanjikode, Palakkad district, Kerala, was admitted in a private hospital near Marathahalli after he sustained injuries in making attempts to save his son.

The Train arrived at platform no. 1 at 8.56 pm and stopped only for a minute. Vikram was loading his parents luggage while his parents were seated in the AC compartment, the train started moving. In a rush to get off the train, he jumped but unfortunately got stuck under the wheels.

“Vikram jumped out of the train, but in a direction opposite to which it was moving. He lost control and fell in the gap between the moving train and the platform; he came under the wheels. His legs, hands and head were severed from his body. Seeing Vikram fall, Vijayan too jumped out of the moving train and sustained severe injuries,” a police officer said.

Vikram’s mother Udaya Kumari learned about the heart-wrenching tragedy of her son’s death when fellow passengers pulled the chain to stop the train.

Byappanahalli railway police shifted Vikram’s body to Bowring & Lady Curzon Hospital, where the postmortem was conducted on Tuesday morning.

A case of unnatural death has been registered based on a complaint filed by Chandan Kumar, station master of Carmelaram railway station.
