Bhilai Steel plant blast kills 6, seriously injures 18

New Delhi: As many as 6 people and 18 others were seriously injured after the gas pipeline blast in Bhilai steel plant of Chhattisgarh’s Durg district.

According to initial reports, the blast took place in a pipeline near coke oven section of the plant in Bhilai town, which is around 30 km from the state capital Raipur, a police official told PTI.

The injured were immediately rushed to a hospital after being rescued by police personnel and the rescue team, News18 reported.

The gas plant is operated by the state-run Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL).

Earlier in 2014, 6 workers were reported to have died because of an explosion in the blast furnace at the Bhilai Steel Plant.

In a similar incident reported in November 2017, 43 people died and many were injured after a blast at a National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Limited plant at Unchahar in Uttar Pradesh occurred.
