New Delhi: Nine students of Banaras Hindu University including a female on Thursday, got detained on their way to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They wanted to submit a memorandum of their demands.
They were detained at the Chanakyapuri station on the way to the PM’s residence from Jantar Mantar after meeting the National Commission for Women (NCW).
The group of students was allegedly detained without the presence of any female police officer and was not told why they were being detained.
“We are detained in Chanakyapuri station without giving us a cause of arrest. We met the NWC and were seeking an appointment with the PM and with the HRD Minister. As we did not get an appointment from the PM, we were going to give a memorandum to his secretary but were under surveillance and were detained from the road… I was the only female in this and again there were no female police officers when they detained me,” said the detained student from inside the police station.
