Big blow to congress, ahead of Chhattisgarh Assembly elections Congress MLA joins BJP

A month ahead of the Assembly elections, in a blow to the Congress, Ram Dayal Uike joined the BJP in the presence of its chief Amit Shah in Chhattisgarh.

Amit Shah is on a two-day visit to the Chhattisgarh ahead of its Assembly elections on November 12. Uike, who was a member of the BJP before joining the Congress, described the induction as “ghar vapasi“.

Chhattisgarh Congress chief Bhupesh Bhaghel said, “we met a few days ago but Ram Dayal Uike did not say anything, and politicians switching parties in the election season is not uncommon.”

He was elected MLA of Pali Tanakhar in the year 2013 after winning with a margin of over 28,000 votes. In January this year, he was appointed as a Congress Working President. He had left the BJP in the year 2000 and was inducted into the Congress by Ajit Jogi.

He is known for making controversial statements, In April this year, he had addressed a gathering where he reportedly said Congress would throw BJP out of power from Chhattisgarh and would resort to “sticks and bullets” if needed.
