Bijnor: Interfaith couple allegedly assaulted by BJP workers

BIJNOR: After passport row, another interfaith couple on Thursday was allegedly harassed and manhandled by a group led by Hindu Yuva Vahini and BJP leaders in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district.

According to media reports, the incident happened when the couple from different religious communities had came to get their marriage registered in Bijnor’s sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) court.

Suddenly, “some right-wing members” appeared the scene and created ruckus. They assaulted them allegedly objecting on their inter-faith marriage.

The couple, Mohammad Suhail from Chandigarh and Monika, Bijnor had got married on June 14 at an Allahabad court and had come to get their marriage registered as directed by the high court.

Out of the group, two of the accused identified as the district BJP vice-president, Jaswinder Kaur and district president of Hindu Yuva Vahini Neerja Vishnoi.

Police have filed an FIR in various section of IPC in connection with the incident.

The woman in her complaint filed against unidentified 16 person who are absconding alleged, “Right-wing workers and leaders, including Harjinder Kaur and Neeraj Vishnoi, tried to abduct us. They thrashed us when my husband and I came to the collectorate to register our marriage. A woman police constable also misbehaved with me,” reported Times Of India.
