BJP, Congress reduced Goa to hub of drugs, prostitution: Kejriwal

Cuncolim (Goa): The BJP and the Congress have turned Goa into a hub for drugs, gambling and prostitution, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal said on Monday.

Addressing a party rally in south Goa’s Cuncolim assembly constituency, around 45 km south of Panaji, Kejriwal also accused Defence Minister and former Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar of betraying the hopes of Goans with a series of U-Turns on election promises made in 2012.

“The BJP and Congress have made Goa a hub for drugs. Who will repair this? BJP, Congress, (Goa Chief Mnister Laxmikant) Parsekar?

“The BJP and Congress have made Goa a hub for prostitution, gambling,” Kejriwal said, adding that only a government run by common people and not established politicians would resolve the issues.

“We have seen all politicians, from the BJP, Congress, MGP. Politicians will not do now. We need ordinary people from Goa to go to the legislative assembly. People are saying, we do not want politicians and netas. We have tried them all. All of them lie. They make promises before elections and then they backtrack. We need ordinary people,” he added.

Kejriwal said that before the 2012 assembly elections, Goa’s populace, frustrated with the corruption by Congress leaders, voted for the Bharatiya Janata Party and Parrikar to power.

“People voted for the BJP. It is a hardcore communal party but people saw hope in Parrikar,” the AAP leader said, adding that the BJP-led government had not lived up to people’s hopes.

“After five years, the same Goans say they were cheated. Parrikar cheated, the BJP also cheated. They were as corrupt as the Congress. In fact double (the Congress). Parrikar did a U-turn on every promise made before the last election,” Kejriwal said.
