BJP has lost majority in Lok Sabha: Congress

Congress senior leader and TPCC Treasurer Gudur Narayana Reddy said that the victory of Congress party in next elections was inevitable and Rahul Gandhi is all set to become the Prime Minister.

Reacting on the results of by-elections to four Lok Sabha and 10 assembly seats which were declared on Thursday, Narayana Reddy said that the results clearly indicates that the BJP is being rejected by people for its failed promises and false claims. In a media statement, the Congress leader pointed out that the BJP always came to power through polarisation of votes and division of secular votes. It never had a clear mandate of people. However, the BJP twisted the figures, indulged in horse trading and misused the institutions like Governor to grab the power, he alleged.

“BJP’s old tactics have now turned frail. A simple unity formula among opposition parties in Uttar Pradesh’s Kairana Lok Sabha seat has shattered the plans of BJP and Sangh Parivar. The results of Kairana and Noorpur seats have proved that BJP’s ‘Divide and Rule’ policy will work no longer,” he said adding that the BJP could win only 2 out of 4 LS seats and only one out of 10 Assembly seats in by-polls.

Narayana Reddy pointed out that the BJP, which had won 282 seats in 2014, has lost its majority in the 545-member lower house of parliament. Following continuous defeats in by-elections and the recent resignation of two members from Karnataka, BJP has just 271 members, one short of simple majority. Therefore, the BJP is now depending upon its allies to run the government at the Centre, he said.

The Congress leader said that by rejecting BJP in the by-elections, common people have given an open and clear message that those pursuing hate and communal politics would not be allowed to stay in power for long. He said that the trend was in favour of Congress party across the country, especially in Telangana.

Narayana Reddy said that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, a close associate of Prime Minister Narender Modi and an undeclared ally of BJP, would meet the same fate in Telangana in 2019. He said KCR supported Modi Govt in demonitisation, GST and all other decisions. TRS MPs have voted for BJP candidates in elections of President and Vice President of India. However, just to sabotage the unity of opposition parties against BJP, KCR enacted the drama of ‘Third Front’ and now behaving as if he was always against BJP. “People of Telangana would punish both TRS and BJP for their wrong decisions and policies,” he said.
