BJP MLA Raja Singh threatens to stall Padmavati release in Telangana

HYDERABAD: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Telangana, T Raja Singh, on Tuesday has dared Bhansali to make films on Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Mughal ruler Aurangzeb.

The BJP MLA from Goshamahal has threatened Sanjay Leela Bhansali that he would have to pay if the history was distorted in his upcoming movie ‘Padmavati’.

Speaking to ANI, Singh at a Diwali Milan programme said, “If Padmavati has distorted history, Sanjay Leela Bhansali will have to pay the price. We won’t allow its release in Telangana.”

“We are born Hindus. We must serve our community and protect our religion. An effort is being made to target our community and religion through the film Padmavati. It shows Allauddin Khilji in love with Padmavati. It is a totally baseless and false depiction. It does not show the true history. It does not show jauhar. When Chittorgarh was ransacked, 16000 women committed jauhar. Bhansali is not showing what happened at Chittorgarh. Rajputs are saying with one voice across the country that if this movie is released, then they will not allow it to be screened. If this movie is not showing the true history, then we will not allow it in Telangana,” Singh said.

He even challenged Bhansali to make movies on Mughals, Taimur or Mohammad Prophet (PBUH), adding, “I will invest for it.”  adding “How dare you make movies on rulers who have exploited our country? He should not hurt the sentiments of Hindus.”

Earlier on Sunday, Union Minister Giriraj Singh dared ‘Padmavati’ director Sanjay Leela Bhansali to make films on other religions.

The period drama starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor has been facing protests from various communal groups, including the Shree Rajput Karni Sena, for tampering historical facts.
