BJP promises Weavers Corporation if elected to power

Telangana BJP president Dr K Laxman today assured weavers that a corporation with a corpus fund of Rs 1,000 crore would be set up if BJP voted to power in the State.

Speaking to mediapersons at Kothakota, the BJP leader said the party would set up a Weavers Corporation for the welfare of weavers and would provide employment to them. If the BJP formed government, it would ensure that cloths for dresses for schools, RTC and other government institutions would be purchased from weavers only, he announced. Laxman was undertaking Janachaitanya Yatra and today is the fifth day of 15-day yatra.

The aim of the yatra is to make “change” and improve living standard of poor, downtrodden, STs, SCs and BCs in the state, the state BJP chief said and alleged that 90 per cent weavers have occurred losses. Instead of purchasing sarees from weavers of Telangana for Bathukamma festival, the government had bought sarees from Surat and Koimbattur ignoring our state weavers who faced financial crisis, he expressed concern.

The Centre has imparted training to 3,000 workers of weaver community under “ Kousal Vikas Yojana” (skill improvement). But the TRS government failed to provide them any employment, he said and said if the state government is committed for welfare of weavers, it should it should purchase cloths from weavers community for school, RTC and other government institutions. The Centre has given Rs 136.40 crore funds for development of Mahbubnagar district before the new districts were carved out, he explained and demanded how these funds were spent, the CM or any minister should give details of expenditure.
