BJP rebel Shatrughan Sinha praises Rahul Gandhi’s “Masterstroke”

NEW DELHI: BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha, the party’s in-house critic praised the Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s promise of a minimum income guarantee programme. Mr Sinha called it a “master strike” by “master of situation” Rahul Gandhi.

He took to Twitter and said: “It’s a masterstroke by the ‘master of situation’, @RahulGandhi – declaring #MinimumIncomeGuarantee scheme. It has rattled our people so much that some of our prominent people had to rush for a press conference, calling the whole declaration/ announcement “chhal kapat (sic).”

Addressing presspersons following the Congress Working Committee meeting, Rahul Gandhi on Monday announced a “historic” income guarantee scheme which will ensure India’s 20 per cent poorest families get Rs 72,000 per annum.

Rahul Gandhi said that nearly 25 crore poor people in the country will get financial assistance of Rs 72,000 per annum if the party is voted to power under the ambitious minimum income guarantee scheme which the party has named “Nyay”.

The BJP, however, has slammed the scheme, by calling it “chhal-kapat” (deceit) and bluff. Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said “Congress has historically believed in political transactions in the name of removing poverty.”
