BJP receives setback on Rath Yatra as SC declines urgent hearing

New Delhi: BJP on Monday received a setback when the Supreme Court declined to accord urgent hearing on the BJP’s plea challenging a Calcutta High Court order not allowing its Rath Yatra in West Bengal.

BJP had sought an urgent hearing on the petition and had planned to launch the yatra from three districts of the state, however, the apex court has listed the case in the normal course. Supreme Court is closed for winter vacations.

Challenging the order of the division bench of the high court which had set aside the order of a single judge allowing the yatra the BJP had filed the petition last Friday.

Seeking permission to hold the campaign ‘Save Democracy Rally’, which would cover 42 parliamentary constituencies in the state ahead of the 2019 general elections, the party approached the Supreme Court. Calcutta High Court had issued an order not allowing BJP’s Rath Yatra in West Bengal.
