BJP’s horse trading exposed in Gujarat RS poll: Shabbir

Leader of the Opposition in the Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir today accused the  BJP-led NDA government at the Centre of  “murdering democracy” and  emerging as an angel custodian of ‘manipulative politics ‘ unleashed in the country.

Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday, Shabbir Ali said the Gujarat Rajya Sabha election  episode  has  once  again exposed  the “anti-democratic” face of the  Narendra Modi government which is now caught in  its own  web  of horse-trading, kidnapping of legislators with the egg on its face. He said   BJP exploited the  official  machinery in Gujarat with a sole intention to defeat Ahmed Patel of Congress in the Tuesday’s Rajya Sabha elections.

Ali said perhaps egged by the BJP’s stellar role of horse-trading and manipulations in recent  Assembly  and Parliament elections, the  partners of  BJP  in  south — TRS and  TDP — had also  foiled  the democratic and constitutionally guaranteed  institutions like the  Assembly. Chief Ministers of both Telugu States K Chandrasekhar Rao and Nara Chandrababu Naidu have competed in denigrating democracy and Constitution. While  KCR gave one Ministerial berth to one out of 24 defectors  from TDP  in Telangana, AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had  given  four  cabinet  posts  to the brigade of  28 MLAs, defectors  from  the  YSRCP, he added.

Congratulating Ahmed Patel for being elected fifth time and also the Congress MLAs, who  withstood all pressures and appeasement from the  ruling  party, Shabbir said this  episode has proved that Amit  Shah is  not a magician. The  RS elections have set a trend  for the ensuing general elections  in Gujarat, he said. (NSS)
