BJP’s vow of jobless growth creating havoc: Mayawati

Lucknow: Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Saturday attacked the BJP-led Central government over unemployment in the country, saying that the government’s vow of jobless growth is causing havoc.

Her remarks came a day after the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) report claimed that the number of employed men in the country has fallen by nearly two crore in the six years between 2011-12 and 2017-18.

“Quite disturbingly the curse of berozgari (unemployment) is at its highest in 45 years but BJP is totally careless. Successive governments failed miserably on crucial issues of poverty alleviation and social justice but Modi government’s vow of jobless growth (is) causing havoc to jobs and creating more super rich,” she tweeted.

The report, which was to be released in December 2018 and was withheld by the government, also showed that only 28.6 crore men were employed in the country during 2017-18 as against 30.4 crore men employed six years ago in 2011-12.

With Lok Sabha elections around the corner, the BSP has sharpened its attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The BSP, which scored a nil in the 2014 parliamentary elections, is contesting this year’s polls in alliance with the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party and the Ajit Singh-led Rashtriya Lok Dal.

Uttar Pradesh will have seven-phased polling from April 11 to May 19. Counting will take place on May 23.
