Black ink thrown at Jawaharlal Nehru’s statue in Burdwan of West Bengal

Kolkata: Statue of former Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru was smeared with black ink on Thursday in Burdwan district of West Bengal. The incident had taken place in Katwa area of the district. In the past few days, statues of personalities like Mahatma Gandhi and Lenin have been defaced and vandalised. After BJP came to power in Tripura, the first statue to be taken down was of Lenin.

A Trinamool Congress leader alleged BJP workers for destroying the statue. An FIR was registered and police rushed to the area soon after receiving the information. The statue was later cleaned up, quoted India Today.

TMC leader Rabindranath Chatterjee said that it was a conspiracy by the BJP workers. He said that the BJP is trying to destroy peace by vandalizing the statues of national leaders.
