Blind love: Indian dancer changes gender for Pakistani lover

We heard love transcends boundaries but for Gaurav and Rizwan it has also transcended gender.

Gaurav Sharma, a young man from Lucknow, underwent sex reassignment surgery for his beloved Rizwan, who stays in Pakistan. Gaurav who is a classical (Kathak) dancer renamed as Meera after surgery.

In an interview with one of the English dailies, Meera says, ‘It began when she met Rizwan over a social network site, for the Ph.D work that was related to Sufism which has always reasoned everything around me. Rizwan who represents a Sufi school was helping me understand the nuances for my work.’

“A time came when we started feeling that we are an extension of each other’s soul.’ Rizwan offered to undergo sex-change surgery so that we could be together for the rest of our lives”, meera added.

However overwhelmed Gaurav decided to take the extra step and to change his life-long identity for the sake of love.

“When Rizwan volunteered to undergo sex change Meera had a life changing epiphany, “I thought this man is willing to give up his identity and personality for me. Why can’t I do it for him?”, reports DNA.

After consulting a doctor in Mumbai, Gaurav started taking hormone treatment followed by a series of surgeries over a period of nine months to transform fully into a girl.

Interestingly the duo hasn’t met so far, except on Skype chats. They are likely to meet in March, when Rizwan is going to come down to India only to meet her.
