Blue Whale Challenge: Delhi HC issues notice to centre

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court issued a notice to Centre and Delhi Police seeking their response pertaining to a plea to ban the suicidal Blue Whale Challenge.

The Delhi HC also sought the response from Managing Directors of Facebook India, Google India, and Yahoo India. The deadly game of Blue Whale has so far taken six lives of teenagers, between the age group of 12 to 19 years within two weeks, reports the DC.

The court will hear the matter on September 19. Meanwhile, Delhi Police counsel Sanjoy Ghose informed the court that the cyber security cell was active in this regard and the Centre has also issued a direction, as per the Hindu.

On August 15, the Ministry of Electronics and IT had directed the internet majors — Google, Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram, Microsoft, and Yahoo to immediately remove the links of the deadly Blue Whale Challenge.

The online game has earlier claimed several lives in Russia, which asks the player to draw a whale on a piece of paper as a first task, then it asks the player to carve a whale figure on their body, and then gives other challenging tasks such as watching horror movies alone amongst others. The tasks also include the final stage to commit suicide.
