Bodies of teenage girl, friend recovered in Udhampur

Jammu: The state police on Monday took out the bodies of a teenaged girl and her friend from a canal in Udhampur district.

The police said the girl was aged 14 years and the boy 21. Their bodies were removed from a canal in Chenani area of Udhampur district.

The father of the girl had lodged a complaint with the police alleging that Dharam Singh, a local youth, had kidnapped his daughter, a class 8 student.

“We recovered the footwear of the girl and the youth on the banks of the canal. We also recovered handwritten notes and a diary which said the two were taking the extreme step as they feared opposition from their families to their association,” said the police.

“It apparently looks like a case of suicide. We are investigating all possible angles,” said a police officer.
