Bright sunny days in J&K help brave chilly nights

Srinagar: Cold wave in the valley and bone chilling freeze in the Ladakh region on Tuesday continued unabated. However sunny days have helped the people of Jammu and Kashmir to brace the biting cold during the nights over the last two weeks, the Met said.

The day temperatures were likely to hover around 12 degrees Celsius in the Kashmir Valley. The night’s though would continue to remain several notches below the freezing point till Thursday, a Met official said.

“Rain or snow could occur at isolated places in the Ladakh region,” he said.

The night’s lowest temperature in Srinagar was minus 3.7, while that in Pahalgam was minus 5 and it was minus 5.2 in Gulmarg.

At minus 19.2 degrees Celsius Kargil was the coldest town in the state, followed by Leh at minus 14.

Jammu city recorded 7.2, Katra 6.7, Batote 2.7, Banihal minus 1.5 and Udhampur was at one degree Celsius.
