Businessmen prefer train journey for Gold smuggling

Hyderabad: With the apprehension of catching, smugglers prefer train journey to road journey or air travel. SP of Railway Police, Mr. S. Rajindra Prasad told that after getting information, security arrangements were made strict. He further told that it is not possible to check each passenger at railway stations.

In one such case, on receiving information that certain passengers traveling through Rajdhani Express bound for Mangalore are carrying gold ornaments, Railway police came into action. Informers also furnished the seat numbers and compartment numbers of the smugglers which made the job of the police easier.

As soon as the passengers got off the train at platform number 10, the search was made and ornaments worth Rs. 1.35 crore were seized from two businessmen Rajesh and Jagmohan Singh. In the same manner, a bag containing gold biscuits weighing 2.8 kg was found unclaimed at the Nampally Railway Station.

Mr. Prasad told that some businessmen are traveling by train to carry smuggled ornaments to avoid GST.
