KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee told voters at a rally in Hooghly’s Bhadreswar on Tuesday that the Prime Minister Modi should first think about saving his chair than indulge in horse trading.
As per reports published in Economic Times, the the firebrand Trinamool Congress chief said, “In Bengal, he talks about buying 40 MLAs. I would request him to save his chair first and then try and buy MLAs in Bengal,” adding, “In TMC, people are dedicated to work for people. They cannot be bought so easily. Bengal will never allow this party that only instigates communal violence. The government in Bengal will not fall so easily.”
Banerjee’s remark come after PM Modi on Monday claimed that 40 TMC MLAs were in touch, asking if he is campaigning or is indulging in horse trading.
“Modi said yesterday that 40 Trinamool Congress workers (MLAs) are in talks with the BJP. Look how shamelessly he is indulging in horse trading. His candidature should be immediately cancelled. He has no right to continue as the PM,” Banerjee said at a rally in Hooghly district.
Addressing a public rally in Serampore in West Bengal, PM Modi made the sensational claim in the middle of the general election saying that 40 TMC MLAs are in touch with him and there is nothing that can save Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
“Didi, on May 23, when the results will come, the lotus will bloom everywhere and your MLAs will leave you. Didi, your 40 MLAs are in contact with me even now,” he said at the public meeting.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Monday filed a complaint against PM Modi before the Election Commission over the alleged horse trading of party leaders.
Eight parliamentary constituencies in West Bengal — Baharampur, Krishnagar, Ranaghat, Burdwan East, Burdwan-Durgapur, Asansol, Bolpur and Birbhum, went to polls under the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha election.
There are 42 Lok Sabha seats in the state. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.
