Coimbatore: When asked the principal of Hadiya’s medical college on Tuesday, about whether she can meet her husband Shafin Jahan, he had said ‘no’, however, he has said a ‘yes’ on Wednesday.
Hadiya had arrived at Coimbatore and was then taken to Sivaraj Homeopathic Medical College in Salem. On Supreme Court’s order, the 25-year-old will complete her BHMS course, quotes The News Minute.
For the past few months, Hadiya was staying with her parents, as her marriage to Shafin Jahan was annulled by the Kerala High Court in May 2017. The Supreme Court yet to respond to the marriage issue.
According to Shafin’s lawyers, Kerala government representatives and State Women’s Commission, the SC order did not prohibit Hadiya from meeting Shafin. On Tuesday, the Principal of her college told media that she will be admitted back as Akhila and will be allowed to meet only her parents.
“See, I do not know who her husband is. She is still Akhila for us, and her guardians are her parents who admitted her. In the present scenario, I will not allow anyone except her parents. We will make sure that I or an official are present when her parents visit her,” principal Kannan told Arun Janardhanan of Indian Express.
However, on Wednesday morning, Kannan said that he has read the court order and abiding by it, he will allow her to meet anyone, including her husband. He also told NDTV that Hadiya would be given limited internet access. He also said that Hadiya will have to continue as Akhila Ashokan, as that was the name under which she was admitted. He added that if she produced valid documents, she can change her name.
