Canada: Girl who faces attack over hijab narrates incident, police rejects the claim

Ottawa: In yet another incident of Islamophobia, an 11-year-old girl was attacked over wearing hijab. This attack took place in Toronto, Canada.

After the incident, the girl is scared. In an interview with media men, she gave the details of the incident.

She said, “Someone insulted me by cutting my hijab”. “When I screamed, the accused ran away”, she added.

When one of the reporters asked, “what do you think of this happening?”, she replied, “I feel this is terrible and I feel like this should stop”.

However, Toronto police after investigation rejected the claim and said that no such incident took place. Police is no longer seeking a suspect, Newsweek reported.

Earlier, reacting on this, the officials of the Toronto District School Board said it was a shocking incident.

Meanwhile, Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne termed the incident as the act of hatred and cowardice.

John Tory tweeted, “I am shocked and appalled to learn a student wearing a hijab was assaulted on the way to school this morning in Scarborough”.

Prime Minister of Canada also tweeted, ” My heart goes out to Khawlah Noman following this morning’s cowardly attack on her in Toronto. Canada is an open and welcoming country, and incidents like this cannot be tolerated”.
