Cataract surgery performed on 32 patients in torch light in UP, CMO removed

Unnao, Uttar Pradesh: After being in severe bad light due to Gorakhpur’s BRD hospital tragedy, another medical disaster has taken place in Unnao of Yogi Adityanath’s Uttar Pradesh.

Where Health Minister Sidharth Nath Singh on Tuesday had to remove Chief Medical Officer, Rajendra Prasad, after doctors performed eye surgeries under ‘torchlight’.

As per the reports, doctors at Community Health Center of Nawabganj conducted eye operations of 32 patients under torchlight on Monday night.

“Taking a serious note of the matter, the Uttar Pradesh government acted promptly and suspended CMO Rajendra Prasad,” Singh said.

He said that the in-charge of community health centre (CHC) at Nawabganj has also been removed. A report has been sought by the state health department regarding the entire episode.

The surgeries were reportedly done like this as there was no electricity or power back-up. Relatives of the patients also informed that they were made to lie down on the floor as there were no beds.
