CBI books AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes, others for violating flying licence rule

New Delhi: AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes has been booked by CBI over alleged violation of norms for getting international flying licenses and for violation of Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) rules, said officials on Tuesday.

Along with him, Group CEO AirAsia Malaysia, the company AirAsia, Travel Food owner Sunil Kapoor, AirAsia Director R Venkatraman, aviation consultant Deepak Talwar, Director of Singapore-based SNR Trading Rajendra Dubey and unidentified public servants have also been named in the FIR according to news agency PTI.

The case is related to the alleged violation of 5/20 rule (in terms of aviation sector ), that is, a company eligible for getting licence needs to have five years of experience and 20 aircraft. The investigating agency further alleged that the airline’s CEO lobbied government officials for getting clearances and making the changes in regulatory policies.
