CEA Arvind quits to attend family commitments, says Union Minster Jaitley

New Delhi: Chief economic advisor (CEA) Arvind Subramanian will be returning back to US after serving for nearly a 4 years, “on account of pressing family commitments”, said Union minister Arun Jaitley in a post.

Subramanian had joined the BJP government as an economic advisor on October 16, 2014, for only a period of three years but he continued to serve for a longer period after Jaitley requested him to continue, TOI reported.

He said: “On the expiry of the three year I (Jaitley) had requested him to continue for some more time. Even at that stage he told me that he was torn between family commitment and his current job which he considered the best and most fulfilling he has ever done.”

Jaitely has also credited Mr Subramanian for his concept of the “JAM (Jan Dhan, Aadhar, Mobile) as a data base for availing public benefits.”
