CEC holds meet on poll arrangements: CEO

Hyderabad: Chief Election Commissioner Om Prakash Rawath today held a video conference with Telangana and other poll bound border States and took stock of the elections. From the national capital, Rawath instructed the Chief Secretaries, CEOs, DGPs and other officials to ensure that the elections are conducted in a fool-proof manner.

From Telangana Chief Secretary Shailendra Kumar Joshi, State Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar, DGP Mahender Reddy, Joint CEO Amrapali attended the video conference. The meeting assumes significance as some states are gripped in Maoist threat to boycott the elections including Chattisgarh wherein a Door Darshan scribe was allegedly Killed. The CEC has directed the officials of the poll bound states to focus specially to check the illegal flow of money, liquor and objects that will induce the people.

Later talking to media persons at Secretariat, Rajat Kumar informed that OP Rawath has asked for smooth and peaceful conduct of the polls. Mainly the EC wanted to coordination between the poll bound states at the border to thwart any incidents that may disturb the polling process he said. He also said the law and order and smooth and fair polls are key in coordination with other state at borders. In addition to put in place the operational EVMs, VVPATS and security personnel, the EC sought the states going for the polls to remain extra alert and continuously vigilant on the alleged flow of money and liquor he added.
