C’garh CM seeks EC nod for judicial probe into killing of BJP MLA

Raipur (Chhattisgarh): Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Sunday said the state government has sought the permission of the Election Commission for a judicial probe into the killing of BJP MLA Bhima Mandavi in an alleged Naxalite attack.

He brushed aside BJP’s demand for the CBI inquiry into the case, asserting that the CBI is not above judiciary in the country.

“On very next day after the incident took place, we sought permission for the judicial probe. Is the CBI bigger than judiciary in this country? We are all saddened by the death of Bhima Mandavi who was our colleague in the Assembly,” he said.

Mandavi was killed and five police personnel sustained critical injuries after Naxals attacked a convoy on last Tuesday. Mandavi was in the convoy travelling from Kuakonta to Syamgiri in Dantewada, when it came under the Naxal attack.

Chhattisgarh went to poll on April 11 in the first phase and will also witness polls on April 18 and April 23 during the second and third phase. Chhattisgarh has 11 parliamentary constituencies.
