There are over 4,000 chemicals found in cigarette smoke, more than 70 of which are known to cause cancer. They include heavy metals, toxic gases, and chemicals used as pesticides, some of which are Nicotine, Carbon monoxide, Tar, Formaldehyde, Benzene and Hydrogen Cyanide are another 2 highly toxic chemicals found in cigarette smoke.
Dr. Mandeep S. Singh of the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Medicine said, “that certain trace chemicals that we are exposed to in small amounts could be harming our eyes, incremental ways over time, here, the investigators implicate cadmium, which is present at relatively high levels in cigarette smoke.”
