Chennai: Old age bring loads of misery and heart breaking moments for elderly parents when their kids refuse to look after them, what’s worse is that parents nowadays are abandoned by their own kids.

A similar heart wrenching incident is reported from Tamil Nadu where an elderly couple in their early sixties allegedly committed suicide after their children refused to look after them.

The couple identified as Manoharan, 62, and Jeeva, 56, were both Government employees and had taken a VRS. They committed suicide in their home on Wednesday night in Porur stating their children, son aged 32 years and daughter aged 29 had abandoned them.

The neighbours alerted the Police after they noticed smoke emanating from Manoharan’s house. By the time Police broke into the house, Manoharan’s body was completely burnt while wife Jeeva’s body was found in the living room.

The Police has sent the bodies for post-mortem. Investigation into the suicide revealed the couple were depressed after their children refused to look after them. Manoharan had given poison to his wife and later set himself on fire.

The parents before dying have left suicide note which read, “Please use the below amount for our final rites. Please don’t bury us but burn our bodies,” along with leaving two cheques of Rs 2 lakh each for their kids, reported yahoo.com.
