Chhattisgarh: Another former collector enters politics

Raipur: RPS Tyagi, a 2001 batch official of the Indian Administration Services (IAS), who has served as the collector for numerous districts, joined the Indian National Congress on Saturday.

Speaking to ANI after joining the party, Tyagi said that his decision to join the Congress was based on “only and only social service”.

“The reason behind joining Congress is only and only social service. I want to serve people. I have chosen Congress because it is the oldest political party and has been there since before my birth,” he noted.

Replying to a question on whether he has faced any political heat during his official tenure, he said, “I have served for very long and have always worked free from any pressure. I resigned not because of pressure but because I felt little tied up.”

With regards to contesting in assembly, Tyagi said that any such decision would be taken by the Congress high command. He also said that during his tenure, he would like to focus on the betterment of health services in Chhattisgarh.

Tyagi is the second former collector from Chhattisgarh to join politics in the last one week.

On August 28, another former collector, OP Choudhary, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
