Chhattisgarh: A philatelic tribute for Mahatma Gandhi

New Delhi [India]: A stamp exhibition paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi is all set to hit Chhattisgarh.

The 4-day event will be organised by Dr Aaditya Pratap Singh Entertainment and the collection on display will be a beautiful endeavour by Dr Bhanu Pratap Singh.

The exhibition will see stamps, FDCs, coins, paper money and other materials like charkha, paintings, photographs and statues displayed in 100 frames. This will also include various philatelic materials issued on the centenary of birth (1869-1969) of Mahatma Gandhi.

Raipur-based Dr Singh collected various stamps, coins and other Philatelic material issued with Mahatma Gandhi as a subject. He further revealed that on the occasion of Gandhi Birth centenary, about 80 countries issued stamps on Mahatma Gandhi.

He added that only a part of his collection will be displayed here.

Dr Singh, who started collecting the materials since 1970 at the age of 9, has his name in Limca Book of records for collection of maximum philatelic material as well photographs on Gandhi since 2014. His claim in Guinness world record is also due.

In addition, he did PhD on ‘Gandhi’s thoughts’ and wrote a coffee table book on him.

Moreover, two big 40ft banners, covering the complete biography of Mahatma Gandhi as well glimpses of his coffee table book ‘BAPU: A Journey from Mohandas To Mahatma,’ will be on display.

Singh revealed that he and his son organised the exhibition on their own expenses. The main aim is to spread thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi and his importance in today’s life and also to increase awareness about philately and numismatics and also to increase interest and awareness among children as well college going students.

Students from many schools have been invited to visit the exhibition to know about the collection as well Gandhi’s dedication toward the nation and non-violence.

The exhibition, which kickstarts on 2nd October, will be held at Conference Hall Hotel Mayura near Raj Talkies. (ANI)
