Child Lifting Rumour: Mob attacks man after noticing crying child

Mangaluru: In yet another incident, a mob attacked a 30-year-old over child lifting rumour. This incident took place on 5th July in Ujire Town of Belthangady Taluk,  Mangaluru.

According to the report published in The Quint, the victim is identified as Kaleed. He was travelling in an auto rickshaw along with his 2-year-old daughter. Due to some reason, the man was scolding and hitting his daughter. When two persons saw the girl crying, they chased the auto and stopped it. They asked Kaleed about the crying girl.

Kaleed refused to give details. Due to his unsatisfactory response, the men started believing that he is a child lifter and began beating him. When more people joined the men, Kaleed disclosed that the girl is his child.

Police officials contacted Shameema, wife of Kaleed to confirm his claim. After confirmation, the victim was allowed to go.

Later, police reportedly asked the locals not to believe on fake WhatsApp messages.

It may be mentioned that it is not an isolated case. In the past also, such incidents are reported. In the month of May, a 26-year-old labourer was lynched in Bengaluru over child lifting rumour

Such incidents are taking place due to fake WhatsApp messages. These messages are trying to panic parents.
