City Maoist couple paid reward amounts by CP

The State government has released the reward amounts to CPI-(Maoist) couple Kotte Purushotham, 68, and his wife Vinodini, 63, Rs 8 lakh and Rs 5 lakh respectively. As the couple surrendered to police on October 9 this year, City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar handed over the reward amounts to the couple.

It may be mentioned here that Kotte Purushotham with many aliases Ashok, Srikanth, Murali Krishna, MK, Vijay, Sharath Chandra joined the then People’s War Group in 1981 at the age of 31 and married Vinodini, a teacher, in 1982. Purushotham worked as Hyderabad City Committee Member and became City Committee Secretary and worked from 1981 to 1986. The couple recruited some 60 cadre and sent them to forest for training. He was arrested in March 1991 at Visakhapatnam along with Shakamuri Appa Rao (SCM) and Sammi Reddy (DCM).
Later, Purushotham was released in May, 1991 when the Maoist party demanded release of its leaders after they kidnapped city Congress leader P. Sudheer Kumar from Himayat Nagar. Later, he rejoined the extremist party and continued to work up to 1996. From 1996 to 2005, he worked in the Sub-Committee on Political Education as a member under the guidance of Central Committee, Tamil Nadu. The couple held a reward of Rs 8 lakh and Rs 5 lakh respectively.
The Maoist couple residing at Addaguttra in Secunderabad surrendered before the Hyderabad City Police Commissioner on October 9, 2018 stating that since last 10 years, they were facing a lot of difficulties and youth were not joining their party. Purushotham said due to ill-health and also formation of Telangana State, he had decided to surrender before the Police because party supremo Rama Krishna alias RK was selfish and killing MLAs in Andhra, which was not correct. Vinodini said she and her husband have not participated in any violent incidents and decided to surrender due to old age and health problems and waned to lead a peaceful life.
