Civic officer attacked with ink; employees strike work

Thane: A `vada pav’ seller today allegedly threw ink on a civic officer in Kalyan Dombivli following the latter’s action against his stall, triggering spontaneous strike by the corporation employees.

Arun Wankhede, Zonal Officer of Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC), had earlier ordered the removal of the `vada pav’ (a popular snack in Maharashtra) stall of one Shyam Khsirsagar from near the DCP Zone IV office in Bazarpeth area, civic officials said.

Khsirsagar, who is said to be affiliated to a political party, has been taken into custody by police.

This morning Khsirsagar walked into the office of Wankhede under the pretext of giving him a memorandum. Once inside, he threw ink on the civic officer’s face. Those present around the place pinned down Khsirsagar and handed him over to the police, they said.

A video of the officer being smeared with ink and wiping his face went viral on social media sites.

Immediately after the incident, a section of KDMC employees struck work and demanded stringent action against the ink attacker.

Talking to the media, Wankhede said he had taken action against Khsirsagar’s `vada pav’ stall hence he threw ink on his face.

KDMC Public Relations Officer Prasad Thakur said necessary action was being initiated by the police against the accused.
