GURGAON: The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) on Wednesday sealed a mosque in Sheetla Colony in Gurgaon area.
MCG went ahead with the sealing of the newly built structure citing it’s proximity to Indian Air Force (IAF) ammunition depot that fell within the restricted radius of 300 meters.
“The sealing is in accordance with the order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which prohibits any new construction within 300 meters of the IAF ammunition depot. The structure lies within this radius and was a new construction. It has nothing to do with any religious group’s objections or complaints,” said Yashpal Yadav, MCG Commissioner.
It may be noted that about a week ago, the Colony experienced a tension after some Hindu outfits objected over the use of mic and loudspeakers at a three-storey house claiming that ‘Azaan’ and reading namaz was disturbing them, according to The Indian Express.

President of Muslim Ekta Manch, Hazi Shehzad Khan alleged that the move of MCG which is backed by BJP government of Haryana is “intentional and outrageous” and meant to provoke the Muslim community.
“They want us to do unlawful activities so that they could make it a bigger issue. We have objections against the move but will not take law in our hands,” Khan was quoted as saying.
A few months ago, Gurgaon witnessed members of right-wing Hindu groups allegedly attacking Muslims while they were offering Friday namaz on open spaces.
