Hyderabad: A clear picture and clarity regarding the much speculated early elections in Telangana State would after the meeting of the Chief Election Commissioner of India on Monday with the representatives of all recognized national and regional political parties.
The CEC has convened the meeting of the representatives of seven national parties and 51 regional parties to discuss various aspects of the election processes including enumeration and preparation of voters list etc.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao who is already in New Delhi for meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and some central ministers purportedly on “official business” to get resolved various issues concerning the state pending with the central government.
The Chief Minister had already met the Prime Minister on Saturday and discussed various pressing issues pending before the Centre like clearance for the new zonal system, increase in the FRMB limit by 0.50 percent to raise the state government’s annual borrowing limit and mobilize funds from various financial institutions, bifurcation of High Court , grants for backward districts etc.
Though the Chief Minister had gone to meet the PM with wish list of 14 items, he was stated to have laid stress and given importance three main issues– clearance for the new zonal system to enable the government to go in for job recruitments,. increase the government’s borrowing limit and release the fourth instalment of financial assistance for the backward districts.
There was also a lot of media hype that one of the main purpose of CM’s Delhi visit was with regard to his plans to advance the elections in the state. However, after the meeting between the CM and PM, conflicting reports emerged that KCR did broach the early poll issue with Modi and that there was no clear cut assurance in the regard from the latter.
KCR had a hectic day on his second of his stay in the national capital today. He called on Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and discussed with him the imperative need for immediate clearance for the new zonal system and other issues. Later the C M called on Union Finance Minister Arun Jailtely and stressed the need for increasing the state’s borrowing limit, immediate release of financial assistance for the backward districts etc. He is likely to meet the Union Minister for Highways Nitin Gadkari on Monday.
There is also speculation that KCR might even attend the meeting being convened by the CEC and thus apprise himself of various nitty gritty issues concerning his plans for going in for early elections in the state. Thus talk in the political circles is that a clear picture regarding early polls would be known after the CEC’s meeting.
