CM announces Rs 200 crore for Medaram; To acquire 200 acres for development

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today said tribal deities “Sammakka and Sarakka” were noted for their bravery reflecting the fight of Telangana statehood.

KCR made a visit to Medram Tribal Jatara and offered special prayers at Sammakka and Sarakka Gaddelu at Jayashankar Bhupalapally district near Warangal. The Chief Minister offered jaggery called “Bangaram” to the tribal goddesses on the occasion and also weighed in the balance.

Deputy Chief Minister K Srihari, Speaker S Madhusudhan Chary and others welcomed the Chief Minister and his family members, including his wife Shobha and grandson Himanshu and others. Stating that about 1.50 crore people thronged the Tribal festival site from various States, KCR announced sanction of Rs 200 crore for development of Medaram festival site. He said from 200 acres to 300 acres will be acquired for the South Indian Kumbha Mela of Medaram festival and a special meeting will be held in 15 days to take a decision.
“I prayed the goddesses to change the narrow mindset of those, who are stalling the works of the projects and for speedy completion. The festival was neglected in the combined State and I will meet Prime Minister Narndra Modi and ask him to accord national status to Medaram on the lines of Kumbha Mela in Uttar Pradesh”, he said.

“During my previous visit, I prayed to the forest goddesses to bless me to achieve Telangana state and now to complete the irrigation projects. Next time in 2020, the Medaram Tribal Festival will be conducted in a grand manner by bringing national festival status, he said. There was a need for developing the festival as a national one and next time it will be celebrated on a grand note, he said. Since the single bridge at Jampanna Vagu was not sufficient to cater to a large number of devotees, another parallel bridge should be built, KCR said. (NSS)
