CM happy with LIC MoU for farmers, Rs 5 lakh insurance from Aug. 15

In yet another scheme for the welfare of the farmers in Telangana who have already got a bounty of Rs 4000 per acre towards crop investment, the State government today signed an agreement with the LIC to provide Rs 5 lakh insurance to the kin of the farmers in case of any type of death (natural, accidental, suicide or other).

The scheme first of its kind in the country will be implemented from August 15 across the State. He announced that Rs 5 lakh insurance amount will be given to the kin within 10 days of death of the farmers aged between 18 to 60 years. The farmers should fill the LIC forms with nominee names and submit to the officials for the purpose.

An elated Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao today said this after Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Principal Secretary Parthasarathi and LIC Chairman VK Sharma exchanged the memorandum of understanding at HICC here on Monday. Stating that he is very much satisfied with the MoU he clarified about the government inability to extend Rythu Bandhu Scheme (RBS) to the tenant farmers even as big farmers in the state are still facing loan problems.

A national newspaper stated that the crop investment scheme is the best in the country and about 89 per cent of farmers received cheques under RBS, the chief minister averred. Our intention is to ensure that the farmers who feed to the country should remain happy by getting MSP to their produce and marketing facility. Farmers’ growth is national growth and the state government is determined to help them get all support.

The AEOs in coordination with village revenue officers and others should guide the farmers about the crops to be cultivated for getting better MSP and on demand for the same in the open market. The opposition parties are making mockery of the welfare schemes as they do not understand the farming and the problems of the farmers he charged. He also appealed to the farmers to take the insurance policy as he will also accept it despite not accepting RBS cheques. (NSS)
