COL’s next online course for teachers starts on October 29

New Delhi: The Commonwealth of Learning (COL), an intergovernmental organisation created by the Commonwealth Heads of Government, on Friday said that the next edition of its five-week-long online course for teachers on technology-enabled learning will commence on October 29.

This massive open online course (MOOC), called “Introduction to Technology-Enabled Learning” (TEL), is designed for teachers in secondary, post-secondary and vocational education to develop their knowledge and practice in teaching and learning with technology, a COL statement said.

“The TEL-MOOC has become a popular course in fulfilling the specific needs of teachers in the Commonwealth countries,” said COL’s e-learning specialist Sanjaya Mishra.

“In its first offer, TEL-MOOC attracted over 1,100 participants. In its second offer, the enrollment increased by about 300 per cent, with 18 per cent earning a certificate and over 67 per cent participated as active learners. We are looking forward to yet another large enrollment in this edition,” Mishra said.

Using up-to-date learning design and simple, accessible technology, the course, to be led by two educators from Athabasca University in Canada, will run on an easy-to-use learning platform.

The course demands approximately three to five hours per week and will allow participants to learn from reading, videos, and discussions with other participants as well as instructors.

The course is taught through meaningful exercises, quizzes and a short assignment and the learners can earn either a “Certificate of Completion” or “Certificate of Participation”, COL said.
