Communal clashes in Aurangabad over water, Sec 144 imposed

AURANGABAD: At least two people were killed and 41 injured including police personnel after clashes broke out between two groups Friday night.

According to reports, things took a violent turn when the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation cut water connection in the area at one of the religious places, owing to non-clearance of bills.

Nearly 100 shops and 50 vehicles were gutted in the clashes on Saturday morning after hundreds of youths took to the streets to pelt stones.

Police had to resort to teargas shelling to control violent mob. Section 144 of the CrPC has been imposed and the internet services have been snapped in Aurangabad city.

The clashes left many injured, including police personnel. The deceased include a 60-year-old man and a 17-year old boy.

Aurangabad CP Milind Bharambe said, “I appeal to the citizens to maintain peace, do not take law in your own hands. If one group is pelting stones, the other group is requested to keep calm not respond in kind, the police is doing its duty. Section 144 of the CrPC has been imposed, if group of people are found to be breaking the curfew we will take strict action against them.”
